Kwango River

Also known as Cuango River

The Kwango is a river of central Africa, about 1,100 kilometres long, that rises in the highlands of north-eastern Angola and flows north, forming part of the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, before joining the Kasai. Its valley was home to the kingdoms of Matamba, Kasanje and the Yaka and was a major route of the Atlantic slave trade.
