Kyirong

Also known as Gyirong

Kyirong (Gyirong) is a county in Shigatse prefecture of Tibet, China, on the border with Nepal. Its valley, cut by a river flowing south through the Himalaya, has long been one of the easiest routes between Tibet and the Kathmandu Valley, carrying salt, grain and wool, and it was fought over in the Nepalese–Tibetan wars. A modern road crossing to Nepal reopened there in the 2010s.
