Libyssa

Libyssa was an ancient town in Bithynia on the northern shore of the Gulf of Nicomedia, near modern Gebze in Turkey. It is remembered as the place where the Carthaginian general Hannibal, who had taken refuge at the court of Prusias I, took poison in the 180s BCE rather than be handed over to Rome. A modern memorial to him stands nearby.
