Limes Sorabicus
The Limes Sorabicus was the eastern frontier zone of the Carolingian Empire facing the Slavic Sorbs, running roughly along the Saale and the Elbe in present-day central Germany. Set up after Charlemagne's campaigns against the Sorbs in the early 9th century, it was a line of fortified places and border districts under Frankish counts rather than a continuous wall. The Ottonians pushed the frontier further east in the 10th century.
