Chronicle of Fredegar

c. 660 · 7th century · Also known as Fredegar

The Chronicle of Fredegar is a Latin chronicle compiled in Frankish Gaul, probably in Burgundy, around 660, and attributed since the 16th century to an otherwise unknown 'Fredegar'. Drawing on earlier works such as Gregory of Tours, it continues the history of the Franks to about 642 and is the main source for the reign of Dagobert I and for Samo's realm of the Slavs. Later continuations carried it into the Carolingian period.
