Limes Tripolitanus

from 75 CE · 1st century

The Limes Tripolitanus was a Roman frontier zone of forts and fortified farms in Tripolitania, in present-day Libya, developed from about 75 CE. It protected the coastal cities and controlled movement from the desert interior. It was a response to the Garamantian Empire and other Saharan peoples whom Roman campaigns never permanently subdued.
