Liudolf, Duke of Saxony
Liudolf was a Saxon count who led the eastern Saxons in the mid ninth century under the Carolingian king Louis the German. With his wife Oda he founded a convent in 852, which moved to Gandersheim in 856 and became one of the great imperial abbeys. He is regarded as the ancestor of the Liudolfing or Ottonian dynasty, which produced the kings and emperors Henry the Fowler and Otto I.
