Bad Gandersheim
Bad Gandersheim is a spa town in Lower Saxony, Germany, west of the Harz. It grew up around Gandersheim Abbey, founded in 852 by the Saxon count Liudolf and his wife Oda and moved there in 856, which as the family foundation of the Ottonian kings became a princely imperial abbey of noble canonesses. Its Romanesque abbey church survives, and an open-air theatre festival is held in front of it each summer.
