Lokamahadevi

8th century · 8th century

Lokamahadevi was a queen of the Chalukya king Vikramaditya II in the 8th century. She commissioned the Virupaksha temple at Pattadakal, originally called Lokeshvara after her, to commemorate her husband's victory over the Pallavas at Kanchipuram around 740. The temple is one of the finest examples of early Dravidian architecture.
