Durga

Durga is a major Hindu goddess, a warrior form of the divine mother who is celebrated for slaying the buffalo demon Mahishasura. She is usually shown riding a lion or tiger and holding weapons in many arms. Her worship is especially strong in eastern India, where the autumn festival of Durga Puja is the principal religious celebration, and many royal courts adopted her as a protective deity.
