Lord of the Isles

Also known as Dominus Insularum

Lord of the Isles, in Latin Dominus Insularum, was the title of the Clan Donald rulers of the Hebrides and western Highlands, first used by John of Islay in 1336. The lords ruled almost as independent princes until James IV forfeited the lordship in 1493. The title was later annexed to the heir of the Scottish crown and is now held by the heir apparent to the British throne.
