Iona
Iona is a small island in the Inner Hebrides off the west coast of Mull in Scotland. Columba founded a monastery there in 563, which became the head of a network of churches and the centre of the mission to the Picts and Northumbria; the Book of Kells was probably begun there. Raided by Vikings from 795, it remained a burial place of Scottish kings.
