Lotan

Also known as Litan

Lotan is a seven-headed sea serpent in the Ugaritic texts of the Late Bronze Age, called the fleeing serpent and the twisting serpent, and defeated by the storm god Baal and the goddess Anat. A servant of the sea god Yam, it embodies the forces of chaos that the storm god overcomes. The same epithets are applied to Leviathan in Isaiah 27:1, showing the debt of biblical poetry to Canaanite myth.
