Louis IX, Duke of Bavaria

1417–1479 · 15th century · Also known as Louis the Rich

Louis IX, Duke of Bavaria-Landshut, called the Rich, ruled from 1450 to 1479. Like his father Henry XVI and his son George, he drew great wealth from his well-managed duchy. He expelled the Jews from his lands in 1450, founded the University of Ingolstadt in 1472, and his son's wedding in 1475 is still re-enacted as the Landshut Wedding.
