1386–1450 · 15th century · Also known as Henry the Rich

Henry XVI, Duke of Bavaria, known as the Rich, ruled Bavaria-Landshut from 1393 to 1450. A careful administrator, he built up a great treasure from silver, salt tolls and taxes. He gained part of Bavaria-Straubing in 1429 and, after defeating and imprisoning Louis VII the Bearded, inherited Bavaria-Ingolstadt in 1447, making Landshut the strongest of the Bavarian duchies.
