12th century · 12th century

Makhzan al-Asrar, The Treasury of Mysteries, is the first of the five long poems of the Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi, written in the 1160s or 1170s. A didactic work of about 2,250 couplets, it mixes moral and religious discourses with short illustrative stories. Nizami dedicated it to Fakhr al-Din Bahramshah, the Mengujekid ruler of Erzincan in eastern Anatolia.
