Malik-i-Maidan

1549 · 16th century

The Malik-i-Maidan, 'monarch of the plains', is a huge bronze cannon on a bastion of the walls of Bijapur. It was cast in 1549 at Ahmadnagar by Muhammad bin Hasan Rumi and later brought to Bijapur, where it became the most famous gun of the Adil Shahi fortifications. Weighing about 55 tonnes, it is among the largest cast bronze guns of the early modern period.
