Manduria

Manduria is a town in the province of Taranto in Apulia, southern Italy. In antiquity it was a Messapian town with massive triple walls, and in 338 BCE the Spartan king Archidamus III, fighting for Taras, was killed in battle beneath them. The Romans took it during the Second Punic War, and the well described by Pliny the Elder still survives there.
