Manica, Mozambique

Also known as Macequece, Masekesa

Manica, formerly Macequece, is a town in western Mozambique near the border with Zimbabwe. It grew from Masekesa, a Portuguese gold-trading fair in the Manyika highlands. In May 1891 British South Africa Company forces defeated Portuguese troops there, a clash followed by the Anglo-Portuguese treaty that left the town in Mozambique.
