Manuel III of Trebizond

1364–1417 · 14th century

Manuel III was Emperor of Trebizond from 1390 to 1417, the son of Alexios III. Faced with Timur's advance into Anatolia, he accepted Timur's overlordship, and after Timur defeated the Ottomans at Ankara in 1402 Trebizond enjoyed a respite from Ottoman pressure. He was succeeded by his son Alexios IV.
