Map of Teozacoalco

1580 · 16th century

The Map of Teozacoalco is a painted map of 1580 from the Mixtec town of Teozacoalco in Oaxaca, Mexico, made for the Relaciones Geográficas ordered by Philip II of Spain. It combines a map of the town's lands with genealogies of its rulers. In 1949 the archaeologist Alfonso Caso used it to show that the Mixtec codices record real dynasties and places.
