Maragtas
The Maragtas is a book published in 1907 by Pedro Monteclaro in Iloilo, setting out a legendary history of Panay drawn from oral tradition. It tells of ten datus from Borneo who bought land from the Ati and founded settlements on the island. Historians such as William Henry Scott have shown that it is not a pre-Spanish document, though it remains important in Visayan identity.
