Maribor

Also known as Marburg an der Drau

Maribor is the second largest city of Slovenia, on the Drava river in Lower Styria. A medieval market town of the Duchy of Styria with a largely German-speaking population, it was secured for the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1918–1919 by Rudolf Maister's forces. It is a centre of wine-growing, claims the world's oldest living grapevine, and was a European Capital of Culture in 2012.
