Massenya
Massenya is a town in south-western Chad, south-east of Lake Chad and N'Djamena. It was the capital of the Sultanate of Baguirmi from the 16th century, a walled trading and slave-raiding centre. In 1871 the forces of Wadai sacked it, and in the 1890s the warlord Rabih az-Zubayr devastated the region before the French established control.
