Person
Ali ibn Abi Talib
Ali ibn Abi Talib was the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad and the fourth caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate, ruling from 656 to 661 CE. His caliphate was marked by civil war, including conflict with Mu'awiya, who went on to found the Umayyad Caliphate after Ali's assassination. Shia Muslims regard him as the first imam, and loyalty to his family later helped mobilise support for the Abbasid Revolution.
