Rabih az-Zubayr

Rabih az-Zubayr was a Sudanese warlord and slave trader who built a powerful state in the Lake Chad region in the late nineteenth century. He conquered Bornu in 1893 and threatened Wadai. He was killed by French forces in 1900, but his advance was the first major external threat to reach the Wadai Empire's heartland.
