Rabih's conquest of Bornu

1893 · 19th century

Rabih's conquest of Bornu was the seizure of the kingdom of Bornu, the successor of the Kanem-Bornu Empire, by the Sudanese warlord Rabih az-Zubayr in 1893. It overthrew the old ruling order west of Lake Chad. The conquest placed a powerful hostile force on the borders of the Wadai Empire, shortly before French colonial expansion reached the region.
