Mesta
The Mesta was the association of sheep owners of Castile, chartered by Alfonso X in 1273. It organised the seasonal migration of merino flocks between summer pastures in the north and winter grazing in the south and held wide privileges over grazing rights. Its wool was Castile's main export, and the association was abolished in 1836.
