Milan Cathedral

1386–1965 · 14th century · Also known as Duomo di Milano

Milan Cathedral is the Gothic cathedral of Milan, begun in 1386 under Gian Galeazzo Visconti and completed only in the 19th and 20th centuries. Built largely of pinkish-white Candoglia marble and crowned with a forest of spires, it is among the largest churches in the world. In 1805 Napoleon was crowned king of Italy there with the Iron Crown of Lombardy.
