Minden
Minden is a city on the Weser in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, just north of where the river breaks through the hills at the Porta Westfalica. Charlemagne founded a bishopric there around 800, and its prince-bishops ruled a territory along the Weser until it passed to Brandenburg in 1648. In 1759 an Anglo-German army defeated the French nearby at the Battle of Minden.
