Miyoshi Nagayoshi

1522–1564 · 16th century · Also known as Miyoshi Chōkei

Miyoshi Nagayoshi was a Japanese warlord of the Sengoku period who dominated Kyoto and the home provinces in the 1550s. A retainer of the Hosokawa deputy shoguns, he turned against Hosokawa Harumoto in 1549, defeated him at Eguchi and drove the shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru from the capital. His regime is sometimes seen as the first unifying power in central Japan before Oda Nobunaga.
