Morice Line

1956–1962 · 20th century

The Morice Line was a fortified barrier built by France from 1956 along Algeria's border with Tunisia, named after the defence minister André Morice. Made of electrified fences, minefields and radar, backed by mobile troops, it cut the FLN's fighters inside Algeria off from their bases and supplies in Tunisia. A similar line ran along the Moroccan border.
