1591 · 16th century · Also known as Moroccan invasion of 1591, Morocco's invasion of 1591

The Moroccan invasion of Songhai was the expedition sent across the Sahara in 1591 by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur of Morocco under the command of Judar Pasha. His force of about 4,000 men, armed with firearms, defeated the much larger Songhai army at the Battle of Tondibi. The defeat led to the collapse of the Songhai Empire.
