Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba
The Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba was built as the Great Mosque of the Umayyad capital from 785 under Abd al-Rahman I and enlarged by his successors, notably al-Hakam II in the 960s, with its forest of double-arched columns. After the Christian conquest of Córdoba in 1236 it became a cathedral, and a Renaissance nave was built in its centre in the 16th century.
