Mount Pelée
Mount Pelée is an active volcano at the northern end of Martinique in the French Antilles. Its eruption on 8 May 1902 sent a pyroclastic flow over the town of Saint-Pierre, then the island's commercial capital, killing about 28,000 people in minutes, with only a handful of survivors. It was the deadliest volcanic eruption of the 20th century and gave its name to the Peléan type of eruption.
