Mpemba
Mpemba was one of the principal provinces of the Kingdom of Kongo in west-central Africa, lying in the heart of the kingdom south of the capital, Mbanza Kongo. Kongo tradition links the founding royal line to the older polity of Mpemba Kasi. Governed by appointees of the manikongo, it remained a core royal province until the kingdom fragmented in the civil wars that followed the Battle of Mbwila in 1665.
