Mwari cult

Also known as Mwari

The Mwari cult is a Shona religious tradition centred on the high god Mwari, with oracular shrines in the Matopos Hills of present-day Zimbabwe. In the Rozvi Empire it provided ritual sanction and ideological legitimacy for the Changamire rulers. Its priestly networks also served as a channel of communication and gift exchange between the court and the plateau's chiefly communities.
