Myitnge River

Also known as Dokhtawady, Dokhtawaddy River, Namtu River

The Myitnge, or Dokhtawady, is a river of central Myanmar that rises in the Shan Hills and flows west to join the Irrawaddy just south of Mandalay. At the confluence stood Ava, or Inwa, capital of Burmese kingdoms for long periods between 1365 and 1842, whose site was protected by the two rivers and a canal.
