Forty Years' War

1385–1424 · 14th century

The Forty Years' War was a series of campaigns between the Burmese-speaking Ava Kingdom of Upper Burma and the Mon-speaking Hanthawaddy Kingdom of Lower Burma. Ava's kings Swa Saw Ke and Minkhaung I tried repeatedly to conquer the south, while Razadarit of Hanthawaddy held them off and raided north. Neither side prevailed, and the two kingdoms remained separate.
