Naaba Kango

Naaba Kango was king of Yatenga, a Mossi kingdom in the north of present-day Burkina Faso, in the second half of the 18th century. Driven out in a succession conflict, he regained the throne with the help of Bambara troops from Ségou. He strengthened royal power over the provincial chiefs and founded a new capital at Ouahigouya around 1780, which remained the seat of the Yatenga kings.
