Nagabhata I
Nagabhata I was the founder of the imperial line of the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty, ruling in western India in the mid-8th century from a base probably at Ujjain or in the Jalor region. Inscriptions credit him with repelling the Arab armies advancing from Sindh around 738, which halted the Umayyad advance into India. His successors, from Vatsaraja onwards, made the kingdom an empire of northern India.
