Nagpur Province

1853–1861 · 19th century

Nagpur Province was a province of British India formed after the East India Company annexed the Maratha kingdom of Nagpur under the doctrine of lapse in 1853. Governed from Nagpur by a commissioner, it covered much of the former Bhonsle territory in central India. In 1861 it was merged with the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories to form the Central Provinces.
