Naryn-Kala
Naryn-Kala is the citadel of Derbent, in Dagestan, Russia, on a hill above the city and the Caspian Sea. Together with the long parallel walls that ran from the citadel to the shore, it was built of stone under the Sasanian Persian king Khosrow I in the 6th century to close the narrow coastal pass against northern nomads. The citadel and walls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
