Neo-Elamite period
The Neo-Elamite period is the final phase of Elamite history, from the early first millennium BCE to the sixth century BCE. Elam could still defeat Assyria, as at the Battle of Der in 721 BCE, but between 699 and 646 BCE some twelve kings reigned in rapid succession amid assassinations and Assyrian pressure. The period ended with the Assyrian sack of Susa and the absorption of the Elamite Confederation's lands into Persian rule.
