New Julfa
New Julfa is the Armenian quarter of Isfahan, founded in 1604–1605 when Shah Abbas I relocated Armenian merchant communities from the Ararat region to his new capital. The Armenians brought commercial networks linking Iran to European markets. The move was a deliberate economic policy that made New Julfa a centre of the Safavid Empire's silk trade.
