Iranian plateau

The Iranian plateau is a high region of south-western Asia lying between Mesopotamia, Central Asia and the Indus valley. It formed the geographical core of Iranian empires such as the Median, Achaemenid, Parthian and Sasanian empires. Later powers including the Seljuk Empire and the Safavid Empire also built their states on it.
