New Policies (Song)
The New Policies were reforms introduced by the chancellor Wang Anshi in the Song Dynasty between 1069 and 1076. They included government loans to peasants, a hired service system replacing labour conscription and other fiscal and military measures. Intended to strengthen state finances, they provoked fierce opposition from conservative officials and divided Song politics for decades.
