Ngbanya

The Ngbanya are the ruling estate of Gonja in northern Ghana, descendants of the Mande horsemen who conquered the region under Ndewura Jakpa in the 17th century. They hold the chieftaincies of Gonja's divisions, while Muslim scholars and the older commoner peoples form the other estates of Gonja society.
