Nkoya people

The Nkoya are a Bantu people of central western Zambia, between the Kafue and the Barotse floodplain. Their own kingdoms paid tribute to the Lozi of Barotseland in the nineteenth century, and under colonial rule much of their land was placed under Lozi authority, a subordination that remained a grievance. Their Kazanga ceremony, revived in 1988, celebrates their chiefs and culture.
