1901–2010 · 20th century · Also known as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The North-West Frontier Province was a province created by the British in 1901 from the frontier districts of the Punjab, with Peshawar as its capital. Princely states such as Swat, Dir, Amb and Chitral lay alongside it, and the tribal areas beyond. It became part of Pakistan in 1947, absorbed the princely states in 1969 and was renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2010.
